The London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) it is recognised as one of the finest orchestras on the international stage. Led by Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski the Orchestra is resident at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall and Glyndebourne Festival.

LPO has a strong commitment to contemporary music and a firm belief that investment in today’s composers is essential to ensure that the core repertoire of tomorrow continues to be produced. The LPO has co-commissioned three works by Britain’s leading classical composers: Harrison Birtwistle, Sir Colin Matthews and Julian Anderson. Each piece is generously supported by the PRS for Music Foundation. The commission’s UK and world premieres will be performed at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the LPO’s 2014/15 season between December 2014 and March 2015, and conducted by Vladimir Jurowski.

Sir Colin Matthew’s commission The Pied Piper, will be a children’s opera based on Michael Morpurgo’s re-write of the classic tale. Harrison Birtwistle is writing a Piano Concerto for renowned soloist Pierre-Laurent Aimard as part of his 80th birthday celebrations. Julian Anderson’s new Violin Concerto for Carolin Widmann will mark the end of his tenure as Composer in Residence at the LPO. Each commission will be programmed as part of a concert in LPO’s main concert season and will be conducted by Vladimir Jurowski.
