Luke Bedford: Beyond Borders
The Opera Group
Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (Birmingham) & The Tramway (Glasgow)
Luke Bedford, one of the UK’s most highly lauded young composers, and poet Glyn Maxwell will create a new music theatre work inspired by Milton’s epic creation myth PARADISE LOST which explores the possibility of a new covenant between humans and the globe in an age of environmental decay. The production involves 7 singers and 12 instrumentalists.
As collaboration between BCMG, The Opera Group, and The Tramway Glasgow there will be 8-12 performances in June and July 2011. Confirmed venues are: CBSO Centre Birmingham (1 performance), The Tramway, Glasgow (1), Oxford Playhouse (1) Brighton Dome & Festival (1) and Royal Opera House London (3). In addition, performances are envisaged at venues in Cardiff, Leeds, and Basingstoke. In addition to the expected audience of £4000, a much wider audience will be reached through a BBC Radio broadcast and a potential NMC recording.
