Luke Styles is a UK based composer whose music has been performed throughout the world at leading festivals by contemporary music’s premiere musicians. This has included performances by the BBC Singers, the Kreutzer Quartet, members of Ensemble Modern, Lontano, Sarah Nicolls and Ensemble Amorpha amongst many others.
Luke’s music has featured at festivals such as the Wien Modern, Darmstadt International Festival for New Music, Deal Festival, Next Generation Festival Karlsruhe, Darbar Festival, ISCM Festival Vienna, Park Lane Group 50th Anniversary concert series, Sonic Arts Network Expo, Karlsruhe Silent Film Festival and Berio Ommagio amongst others. Luke’s music has also received radio broadcasts in Germany (SWR2), England (BBC3) and Australia (ABC).
Luke undertook a Bachelor of Music (composition) degree at the Royal Academy of Music London (graduating with honours in 2005). Following this initial training Luke’s postgraduate studies have taken him to study with Wolfgang Rihm, George Benjamin, Detlev Müller-Siemens and Michael Finnissy.
Luke has been the recipient of numerous awards and commissions amongst them the Wolfgang-Rihm Scholarship from the Privatbrauerei Hoepfner 2008, an Association for Cultural Exchange Study Tours Scholarship with George Benjamin (08/09) and a DAAD scholarship for 06/07. Luke currently teaches composition at the Junior Trinity Conservatoire of Music and is Artistic Director of Ensemble Amorpha.
