Magnus Westwell: Open Fund for Music Creators
Creating, Mixing & Mastering New Album
Magnus Westwell is a Scottish Artist and Director who works with composition, choreography and performance.
Magnus’ work spans the euphoric and desolate, searching within ineffable emotional states to explore physical and sonic cathartic intimacy.
They are a Sadler’s Wells Young Associate Alumni, and their work has been performed across the UK and Europe at venues and festivals including Cafe OTO, Sadler’s Wells, Amsterdam Dance Event, Angel Directory, FOLD, & The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. They are also Artistic Director of music/dance company, Bright Storm Group.
Magnus will use their Open Fund for Music Creators grant to create, mix and master a new album project. Magnus will spend a week in residency at Britten Pears Arts, composing new music in response to the physicality of dance. This creation of new music alongside new dance will be seeds of a new interdisciplinary production which Magnus will continue developing and then tour in 2025.
Exploring new methods of creating and composing, using both improvisational and choreographic structures, Magnus will be exploring ideas around sound and movement – how sound can move, how music can move us, and how movement can instigate and generate compositional scores.
