Manchester Collective (TDN 2025)
Organisation Biog: Known for their imaginative programming, daring collaborations and engaging performances, the work of Manchester Collective has expanded at breakneck speed since their formation in 2016. The Collective has performed across the UK and internationally, in spaces ranging from warehouses to concert halls, with a combination of cutting edge contemporary music, classical masterpieces and staged work. New music and collaboration are of vital importance to the Collective; the shape-shifting ensemble commissions and presents work by some of today’s most exciting artistic voices, crossing different genres and art forms. Manchester Collective has released three albums under the Icelandic label Bedroom Community.
Short Project Title: EXPERIMENTA – an opportunity for six music creators to explore and experiment within the world of contemporary classical music.
Program Description: EXPERIMENTA offers music creators the chance to be supported by Manchester Collective’s musicians and creative team to write and showcase new work. The scheme is for artists from any musical background, who are based in northern England and have experienced barriers to entry into the contemporary classical world. The six-month long programme includes a bursary, a 2-day Manchester residency, one-to-one workshops and mentoring, along with the opportunity to take creative risks together and be part of a forward-thinking artistic community. Participants do not need training in classical music: successful applicants will evidence musical curiosity, exceptional talent, and a hunger to forge their own creative path. Promoted by the high-quality work of the Manchester Collective marketing team, this programme culminates in a showcase event designed to present new work or work-in-progress to industry professionals and audiences who are interested in new music.
