Mermaid Chunky – Moina Leahy Walker and Freya Tate: Women Make Music

Mermaid Chunky are an audio visual duo made up of artists Freya Tate and Moina Moin. Beavering in improvised chaos and visual extravagance, the duo boast of pumping trance rhythms, wind up toys, ancient whistles and seriously arousing sax solos.

Much of their cultivation has come out of the hometown club culture of Stroud’s SVA and London’s Total Refreshment Centre, working with the likes of Alabaster DePlume, Comet is Coming, Katy J Pearson, Capitol K, Yama Warashi, Grove, Snapped Ankles and Worldwide FM.

Profiling womxn audio visual artists has always been a driving force of Mermaid Chunky’s work. This family has grown out of their self curated Solstice events and surreal performative collaborations.

They are absolutely elated to announce they have been granted their PRS Women in Music funding! This will go towards recording their second album which will be celebrating their family tree of womxn collaborators and towards new dance crazes to graze the club floor. Future brewings are looking incredibly chunky.
