The ultimate aim of the Young Composer of Dyfed is to improve the quality of musical composition among young people in the area and to help create a cohort of fine Welsh composers in future years.

The Beyond Borders grant will enable YCOD to commission new works (medium Welsh/English) by Michael Parkin and Stev Crowther.  They will be extensively performed by the Farthingales vocal quartet; Gail Pearson, Kate Wolveridge, Stephen Rooke & Dyfed Wyn Evans. This recently formed, Cardiff-based ensemble, brings together 4 exceptionally talented singers from the world of opera.

By linking with our Welsh partners Carmarthen Arts and Young Composer of Dyfed, this project will also generate at least 16 new Welsh/English vocal works through the YCD’s extensive 2012-13 residency scheme with the Farthingale ensemble, with Showcase Concerts throughout West Wales and a final concert at Rhosygilwen Arts Centre in March 2013.  The project will also offer a concert platform for several composers through the Late Music 2012-13 Great Northern Songbook project.
