Midori Jaeger: The Open Fund for Music Creators
Marketing and release of Midori Jaeger debut album ‘Itch’
Midori Jaeger is a London-based cellist and singer-songwriter whose songs refuse to fit into a box. Her 2021 EP ‘See Touch Kick and Sweat’ gained Jazz FM Late Night Track of the Week and a solo set in November 2022 at the Purcell Room as part of the London Jazz Festival. Midori has performed her music at King’s Place, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club (2022), live on BBC Radio London, and supported Julian Lage at a sold out solo show at Union Chapel in April 2023. Her lyrics confront belonging, sexuality and mixed heritage through a distinctly emotive cello-fuelled sonority.
Midori has received funding from PRS Foundation to help market the release of her debut album of original songs written for cello and voice, and to put on an album launch concert. This album is her largest body of work to date, presenting her artistic vision in an aggressively pure form, since she has not only written all the songs but played most of the instruments on the album. With lyrics drawing on her experience as a mixed-race, queer female presented through a unique soundworld created through working closely with just one other person, this music is contemporary and original. Midori is grateful that with PRS Foundation funding she can ensure that this progressive and unusual body of music can be marketed effectively and intelligently, and performed and documented in high quality.
