Model Man: PPL Momentum

Brothers Mark and Rob Brandon, aka MODEL MAN, grew up in a musical household with a classical pianist mother and a father obsessed with Chicago house and soul. This collision of worlds remains embodied in the working relationship between the brothers and is central to their process – “I have a love of form,” says Mark, “Rob has a love of chaos”, with the upright acoustic piano forming the heart of the duo’s music and live identity. It’s this synthesis that makes for such abstract yet absorbing compositions; tracks that sound as good in the club as they do through your headphones alone at 2am.

Model Man broke through with last year’s ‘City Songs’ EP and standout singles ‘Ketones’ and ‘Beta’. January 2020 saw the release of the duo’s ‘Beta Songs’ EP, a six-track collection of refracted, sparkling electronic music, as well as remixes for the likes of MJ Cole and Alan Fitzpatrick, plus remixes to come for Willaris K and Prospa. To support ‘Beta Songs’ the band debuted their live show with a full 4-piece band performance at Hackney warehouse space Studio 9294, which merged live electronics and virtuoso piano elements with reactive, algorithmically controlled visuals. The band also performed for the BBC’s Introducing Stage at The Radio 1 Big Weekend 2020.

The PPL Momentum Fund will be supporting Model Man by helping to fund their digital marketing activities in the UK, giving them the opportunity to reach new fans through engaging digital content and social media activations.
