Debian Blak: Momentum

Debian Blak’s natural musicianship – developed over the years through playing the violin, drums and piano – lead to an interest in music production from the age of 16. He burst onto the electronic scene with a remix of Kidkanevil’s ‘Tokyorkshire’, alongside R&S/1-800 Dinosaur regular Airhead on First Word Records, the home where he released his critically-acclaimed debut EP, ‘A Hint of Menace’ in 2011. His well-received debut catapulted him to the forefront of the underground electronic scene, receiving air play on BBC 6 Music and garnering rave reviews from Mary Anne Hobbs, Daedalus and Nicolas Jaar.

Fast forward to 2014, the last year has seen Debian Blak release his EP ‘Six Months From Mars’ via Audio Doughnuts, and the follow up single ‘Push It’ ft Kate Sproule – which received Radio 1 support from B. Traits and Mista Jam as well as wide online coverage. Alongside his solo efforts, Debian has had profile-raising remixes for Crystal Fighters and Rainy Milo released on Atlantic Records and Virgin EMI respectively.

Debian Blak will be using the Momentum funding for the recording and promotion of his debut album UK tour.
