Jay Prince: Momentum
Jay Prince is a 22 year old rapper and producer, who’s sound has been described as “honeyed hip-hop, recalling the dawn of US sunshine rap”. His music fuses silky smooth raps that touch on life experiences and opinions on social/cultural issues, with the funky, feel good production for which he has become known. Releasing 2 timeless bodies of work in 2015, which received widespread support in the media, he confirmed MTV’s belief that he is on “The Brink” and Hypetrak advise he is in the “UK Spotlight” for 2016.
Along with 2 acclaimed EP releases in 2015, Jay established himself as an exciting live performer with a series of tour dates. Following a sold out debut headline show in London at the top of the year, he embarked on an 11 date sold out US tour with Soulection, starting at SXSW and ending at Coachella, playing to thousands of people at legendary venues, such as New York’s SOB‘s along the way before also touring Europe with Soulection. Support slots for Ghostface Killah & Badbadnotgood, Major Lazer & Snakehips, Raury & Jay Electronica followed, along with festival dates including Outlook, Great Escape and Warehouse Project.
In 2016, Jay begins the year embarking on his debut headline tour, covering both Europe and North America, as well as supporting #1 album selling artist, Jess Glynne, on her UK tour.
“For an artist like myself, being independent, it gets difficult financing your projects, ideas & tours, and having the Momentum Music Fund really helps me stay a float with my music career, being able to do what I love and giving me that extra push of motivation to be where I need to be. Going on tour is a very pivotal moment in my career and I can say that without having funding these kind of opportunities will not fully flourish. I’m just really excited to get back on the road and show the people what I have in store and am very thankful for being chosen for this opportunity and for what’s to come in the next few months!” – Jay Prince
