Love Ssega: Momentum

The somewhat enigmatic Love Ssega enjoys doing things on his own terms and in his own way. Having left Clean Bandit in order to finish his PhD at Cambridge – something he felt personally he needed to do to encourage others, especially as a young black man from South London – he is now safely back to his first love of music.

Love Ssega’s debut solo EP was released towards the end of 2015 and gained support from Radio 1 and Beats 1. Tastemakers such as Annie Mac, Huw Stephens, Julie Adenuga, Lauren Laverne and Phil Taggart premiered or regularly played tracks from the release. Support also came from publications as diverse as NME (New Music of The Day), Noisey (Featured Artists of the Month), The Independent Newspaper to Mixmag Magazine (Hot Six).

The music filters his crate-digging knowledge of classic sounds through life growing up in London, with nods to New Wave, 80s hip-hop and NYC disco. He has a keen eye for colour and visuals which bleeds into the music. Never to be constrained, his musical experiences are as wide-ranging as his life experiences so far – both unexpected and undefinable.

Love Ssega’s patient approach in 2016 has seen him form his 5-piece band and play live, landing spots at The Great Escape (for DIY magazine), Parklife Festival (Now Wave Stage) and Secret Garden Party. Following this success, the time is right for the second EP to further introduce Love Ssega’s bold and colourful visions for 2017.
