Mo Kolours: Momentum
Mo Kolours is a half-Mauritian, half-English producer, singer and percussionist. Raised on the traditional sega music of his father’s Indian Ocean homeland alongside the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Michael Jackson, Mo Kolours later added hip hop, dub, soul and various other electronic styles to his influences.
His self-titled debut album in 2014 was described by The Guardian as “the best album Curtis Mayfield never made with A Tribe Called Quest and Lee Perry” and his unique, spontaneous style and mesmerising live shows have won him fans such as Gilles Peterson, Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and electronic music bible Resident Advisor, which declared that “no one sounds quite like Mo Kolours”.
There’s an exotic appeal to Mo Kolours and his music but there’s also something very British about him. Mo Kolours follows in the footsteps of UK artists who have synthesised a variety of imported styles and added the indelible stamp of our rainy island, from The Specials and Cymande to Massive Attack and Mala.
The Momentum Fund will enable Mo Kolours to create even better-sounding music by working with a professional mix engineer, to create high quality photos, videos and remixes and to reach more people with press and radio promotion.

“I am honoured to be supported by the Momentum Music Fund, which will help me get heard among all the amazing music out there. I am hugely grateful for the award, and more excited than ever about promoting my new record with its help. Thank you!”
