Penya: Momentum
Penya are a genre defying quartet that embody the energised sound of a cosmopolitan UK.
A host of traditional folkloric rhythms, club culture motifs and DIY electronics mark the band’s distinct sound.
Drums, horn and vocals evoke Penya’s sound from a world of euphoric ritual and visceral dance scapes, ancient and future.
The bands debut LP “Superliminal” (January 2018, On the Corner Records) was recorded in a bedroom on a single microphone.
The album quickly achieved critical acclaim from a host of taste makers including Gilles Peterson and Tom Ravenscroft – the band went on tour and quickly developed a dance floor ready, multi instrumental live show.
Penya will use PRS Fundation momentum funding to produce their 2nd album in a world class recording studio, to continue the period of rapid growth brought about by their debut.
PRS Foundation’s Momentum funding will also fund the creation of marketing content for the album, to boost the release campaign and subsequent touring of the album.
