Yungen: Momentum
Momentum Music Fund Recipient 2015
Having been making waves on the underground circuit since early 2011, Yungen has gone on to release three projects. The first, I Ain’t Even Started – 2011, Topic of Discussion – 2013 (over 15,000 downloads) & Project Black & Red – 2014. The latter gaining huge support and becoming his best received work yet. On the day of release, Project Black & Red went straight to Number 1 in the iTunes Hip Hop/Rap Charts & Number 11 in the overall album chart. Come mid-week the project entered the Official Mid-Week Chart at Number 26.
Including features from the UK’s heavyweights such as Wretch 32, Krept & Konan, Stormzy and more, the success of Project Black & Red led to Yungen having his own headline show on November 6 2014 at the O2 Academy 2 in Islington which went on to be a sold out event. Having been championed by the likes of self-made Jamal Edwards (SB.TV) as one of the most exciting prospects to arise from the underground; his lyrical flamboyance coupled with his honesty and intelligence greatly surpassing his tender 23 years, has gained him a solid, active and loyal fan base.
Fresh from touring the world and performing in front of tens of thousands of people with producer/DJ Naughty Boy throughout 2014, and starting 2015 with the biggest rap song of the year so far (Ain’t On Nuttin’), the rest of 2015 promises to be an exciting one.
