Mr Darcy: POWER UP Industry Professional
Short Bio: Darcy Thomas is a BAFTA-winning reporter, media polymath, entrepreneur, and MOBO Voting Committee member with over two decades of experience in music, television, and live events. Known for his deep commitment to platforming underrepresented talent, Darcy has worked with organisations like Love Music Hate Racism to curate bold, inclusive events. He began his career covering UK music culture with BBC 1Xtra, Newsbeat, 4Music, and BeBox, documenting landmark moments like The BRITS, the Grime Symphony and the MOBO Awards. His storytelling led to work on Bass, Beats and Bars and Bronx Tales (Netflix/4Music), which evolved into content for Jazzie B, Soul II Soul, Places+Faces and Jammer. As a manager, he supported the careers of Dot Rotten/Zeph Ellis and Kid Bookie. In 2017, he helped revive Yo! MTV Raps, later launching his own spin-off Yo! MTV Rates and producing the live TV concert MTV Yo! Raps Live: Plymouth. He produced Channel 4’s Music & Mental Health Special: The Whole Truth and contributed to Def Jam’s documentary Mixtape. In 2021, he launched The Blue Borough Awards, championing Lewisham creatives. In 2023, he developed and pitched Konan: Trapped in My Trauma, influencing PTSD policy, and was also nominated for a climate impact award. After writing an article on climate justice (stocked at Tate Modern), Darcy has focused on climate action and community change. He has been developing R&D projects using recycling, sustainability, and innovation to reimagine music events and products. Darcy is building a legacy, driving change within the infrastructures of the entertainment industry.
