Namvula: Women Make Music

Namvula’s musical journey through her Zambian-Scottish roots has already produced two critically-acclaimed albums: Shiwezwa (2014), which was selected amongst the Sunday Times’ top 100 albums of the year, and Quiet Revolutions (2017), which was dubbed “a contemporary masterpiece” by Jazz FM. Airplay love for both albums was shown by BBC Radio 3, 4 and 6, and Jazz FM amongst others.

Working with her long-term creative co-conspirator, Mercury-nominated bassist and producer Liran Donin, the singer-songwriter is now delving deeper into a rawer and freer sound. Her third compilation of work synthesises a greater lyrical vulnerability with a creative evolution that encompasses elements of electronica, and a looser interpretation of the African sounds that so heavily influenced her writing in the past.
