Natalie Nicholas : Early Career Promoter Fund
About :
Natalie, known professionally as Natz, is a dynamic force in Cornwall’s electronic music scene. With a deep-rooted passion for grassroots techno and drum & bass, Natz has emerged as a powerful promoter and advocate for diversity and inclusivity in a male-dominated industry. Natalie’s commitment to change is evident in the events she promotes, which prioritise good ethics, safe spaces, and equal representation for both promoters and artists. Her initiatives are underscored by a strict zero-tolerance policy against misogyny, harassment, and bullying, creating a welcoming environment for all. Natz’s vision goes beyond just hosting events; she is dedicated to reshaping the local music landscape to be more inclusive and supportive. Before transitioning into the music industry, Natalie spent 17 years as a secondary school Physics teacher. Her experience in education has deeply informed her approach as a promoter, recognising the powerful influence artists and music scenes have on young people. This led her to establish Amplify, a DJ school focused on grassroots development, where she mentors young people, ensuring they have positive role models and the support they need to succeed. As a single mother of twin daughters, Natalie is driven by a personal commitment to push for societal change and equality. Her ultimate goal is to see more diverse, high-profile lineups in Cornwall, where calls for diversity are not just heard but embraced. Through her events Natalie hopes to build community through music and create safe spaces where everyone feels represented and feels comfortable to embrace their authentic self. The grant from the PRS Foundation will contribute towards two events in Cornwall in 2025, as her brand Freestyler Events, to showcase minority artists in underground music genres and bring female headliners to the southwest to help inspire the future and raise aspiration.
