Nicole Cassandra Smit: Women Make Music

“Third In Line” – Debut Album of Nicole Cassandra Smit

“Third in Line” will be Edinburgh based singer, Nicole Cassandra Smit’s, first full length album project as a solo artist. After 7 years in the Scottish gigging and festival circuit, leading, amongst other bands, Nicole & The Back-up Crew, Cow Cow Boogie; repeat touring of the UK with Blueswater and Italy with lo-fi trio SMITTEN, as well as rising up to be one of the top blues performers in Scotland, the Indonesian born – Sweden raised performer is now ready to venture out to write and produce her own original material.

Working together with Chris Greive and Joseph Malik, both veterans in the Scottish jazz and soul scene, the album will be written, recorded and produced almost in entirety in Leith, Edinburgh and involve some of the most exciting musicians in the city at present.

An ambitious endeavour, the project will aim to combine Nicole’s blues song writing sensibilities with musical influences that range from Swedish pop to old school RnB to Javanese gamelan scales. It will represent the exploration of Nicole’s musical and cultural inner-life in three acts. A sonic and narrative flow of an artist who is the third generation of women in her family to have been born, uprooted and found a home elsewhere. The three acts of where you come from, who you came from and who you have become.
