Nik Void: The Open Fund for Music Creators

Debut album release

Nik Void is a composer and performer who has a formidable reputation in experimental shapeshifting. She positions herself in the nebulous realm within the contemporary border of music and sound. Her interests lie in unconventional encounters with her tool, both analogue and digital, as a means of expression. Voice, Guitar, and Modular are her key instruments engaging in a new fractured language using extended technique and inventive sampling through synthesis. As a result, Nik’s ideas blur the lines between techno, ambient and noise, delivering what appears as a simple composition that disguises much complexity.

She has produced critically acclaimed albums with her musical groups’ Factory Floor, Carter Tutti Void, and NPVR, releasing with record labels such as Mute, DFA, Editions Mego, Industrial and Blast First. Void’s improvisational nature led her to explore the intersection between electronic composition and visual art interpretation, with visual artists, including Haroon Mirza, Hannah Sawtell, Phillip Parreno, and Francisco Lopez.

With her debut album release in 2022 on Editions Mego, Nik Void wishes to tie in her collective experience of 10 years as a musician who has worked within the space between art and music. The PRS Foundation Open Fund award will give her the opportunity to realise her vision in full, creating new artworks and promotional materials, and supporting her venture to bring this new work to a global audience.
