Oneness Sankara & Christella Litras: The Open Fund

Short Project Title: T21 ALCHEMY -MUSIC

Project Description: T21 Alchemy is a spoken – word musical about experiences of parenting a child with Down Syndrome, created by writer-performer Oneness Sankara in collaboration with composer and musical director Christella Litras. T21 Alchemy is a satirical and deeply personal love letter to families raising disabled children, a perspective rarely explored in contemporary musical storytelling. PRS Foundation Funding will support the artists to write the the music, and record a number of tracks that will shape the sound and emotional landscape of the production. The score will draw on spoken word performance traditions alongside Black British and Caribbean musical influences, reflecting the artists’ cultural backgrounds and shaping the sonic identity of the work.

Bio: Spoken word poet, performer, writer and vocalist Oneness Sankara creates cross-sector work at the intersection of race, disability and lived experience. A BEFFTA award recipient, she is also a Black mother raising a child with Down syndrome. Oneness’ work bridges performance, research, and lived experience to reshape public narratives around disability, race, and identity. Christella Litras is an award-winning composer, singer, songwriter and musical director working across theatre, live performance and studio production. Theatre credits include Driftwood (RSC/Kiln), Nine Night (Leeds Playhouse / Nottingham Playhouse), Queen of Chapeltown and The Legends of Them.
