Bangor Music Festival: The Open Fund for Organisations

For:

Bangor Music Festival 2016

The Bangor Music Festival is dedicated to presenting contemporary music and sonic arts to communities in North Wales and beyond. With particular emphasis on orchestral, chamber and experimental music, sonic arts and mixed-media events, the festival’s aim is to present the latest developments in contemporary music through concerts, masterclasses, workshops, education projects and community engaging events. The 2016 festival will feature an eclectic mix of contemporary music performed by a host of internationally renowned artists, notably the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Elin Manahan Thomas, ElectroacousticWALES, The Swingles and Côr Glanaethwy, amongst others.

The commissioning of new music forms an integral part of the festival’s activities and will feature new works by Andrew Cusworth, Mared Emlyn, Marc Estibeiro, Meirion Wynn Jones, Sarah Lianne Lewis, Lynne Plowman, Roderick Williams and a number of student composers.

Participating means breaking down artistic barriers and the Bangor Music Festival has a strong outreach program, with each concert linked with an educational element, be it a composition project, instrumental or vocal masterclass or community event, all designed to inspire and engage our audiences. The Bangor Music Festival also delivers an innovative and exciting concept that will not only present music to a wider audience but also pushes the music boundaries seldom experienced in North Wales.
