Tomorrow the Moon BTF Presents Women Led Jazz Double Bills

Blow the Fuse is delighted to have received funding from the PRS for Music Foundation enabling us to programme a new season of Tomorrow the Moon – six double bills which will mix more established women jazz composers and bandleaders with younger women led groups.

Our 2012–2015 seasons have included groups led by composers Laura Jurd, Yazz Ahmed, Deirdre Cartwright, Vicky Tilson, Alison Rayner, Laura Cole, Diane McLoughlin, Dee Byrne, Nora Bite, Lauren Kinsella, Roz Harding, Nikki Iles, Shama Rahman, Daphna Sadeh, Flo Moore, Chelsea Carmichael and Camilla George. There are some very exciting new composers and performers emerging from the jazz courses in the UK and we provide an important next step for these young women, also supporting more established performers, whose considerable talents can be overlooked in the male dominated world of jazz.

Jazz players and composers need good venues to perform in and an absolutely integral part of developing their skills is live performance. In the UK, venues and promoters that support new jazz are few. Furthermore, women instrumentalists represent only about 15% of jazz musicians but the actual programming of women performers at clubs and festivals is only about 5-6%. We envisage that the combination of an exciting programme which is well publicised and highlights the new music being performed will continue to re-energize existing fans and attract new new audiences.
