Craig Armstrong and Calum Martin: The Open Fund for Music Creators

For:

Salm Music by Craig Armstrong and Calum Martin

Craig Armstrong and Calum Martin have recorded a new body of work.

Craig Armstrong, one of Scotland’s leading composers in both film (Moulin Rouge, Love Actually) alongside award winning classical commissions (Scottish Opera, RSNO, BBCSO) and Calum Martin, a Gaelic singer, composer and producer who has been involved in Gaelic music for over 40 years.

Two new compositions: Ballantyne (2016) and The Martyrdom Variations (2014) based on their collaborative studies of Gaelic Psalm Singing over the past 3 years. The recording was performed by the Scottish Ensemble with Duncan Chisholm and Gaelic Psalm singers from Lewis, Harris and the mainland of Scotland. Recorded at the incredible Dundee Caird Hall with award winning engineer Mike Hatch from Floating Earth and conducted by Cecilia Weston. This innovative collaboration of modern composition and Gaelic Psalm Singing will be made available for release from 2019 along with a custom one page dedicated album and Gaelic Psalm Music website hosting information about the release, with information about the tradition of Gaelic Psalm singing and Calum Martin’s Psalm singing workshops.

This project in its purest form is a study and a celebration of music. A meeting of two creative talents and two very diverse musical traditions. Creating the opportunity to reach a wide audience with this fascinating music.
