Dakhla Brass - New Album

Dakhla Brass weave glittering brass threads into intricate musical tapestries like no other band. Propelled by restless percussion, theirs is ‘not exactly’ music – not exactly jazz, not exactly hip-hop, not exactly brass band or Arabian or second-line Mardi Gras …Yet it draws on all of that and more, pumping with the excited surge of a carnival crowd while catching the careful craft of a colliery band and the artful freedom of New Orleans jazz. It beats like the best dance floor vinyl just as it barefoot hip-hops across a Moroccan market square. It taps your toes, swivels your hips and strokes your chin all at the same time. This is demon stuff, delivered with deadly accuracy by five exceptional musicians, and it’s in a class of its own.

Dakhla – here is one of the bands doing great things right now! Gorilla Gorilla Gorilla… is well worth picking up’ – Jamie Cullum, BBC Radio 2

‘Gorilla Gorilla Gorilla,” really is a blazing triumph and puts their name right up there with the best of them in this genre” – Simon Redly (Blues and Soul magazine)

‘A powerhouse. Talent, instinct and creativity make them a real force to be reckoned with.” (Sound on Sound)

‘Dakhla are an important part of the wave of modern groups that draw on the brass band tradition in some way. They are all directed towards a very personal sound that is both fully uplifting and hard hitting – Kevin Le Gendre (Jazz wise)’
