Lost and Found - New Commission by Sonia Allori

Lost and Found is a new commission by disabled young composer Sonia Allori inspired by her own personal recovery from a stroke. Over a series of workshops in Inverness, Sonia will work with adults who have experienced similar neurological conditions to explore how music and music-making can help recover memories and unlock speech and language skills. Using a range of inclusive music technologies which can be played by people with limited movement as well as recordings of “found sound,” Sonia will develop a new work which will be performed by the group at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness.

Sonia is an exciting young composer based in the Scottish Highlands and this bold new work will push the boundaries for inclusive music as well as challenge audiences’ perception of musicians and composers with disabilities. “The idea came about as the result of my experience of having a stroke and its effect on my communication through words and music – the very thing my artistic work and persona is based on. Through a dialogue with my consultant and speech therapist over several years I became interested in the process of recovering speech and language skills, and relationship between self-expression and identity. This led to a fascination with the myriad personal experiences of those who have had a stroke or similar conditions.” Sonia Allori
