Ellie Wilson: The Open Fund for Music Creators

Ellie Wilson is an East London born and based composer/violinist, and member of ‘Britain’s most exciting new folk band’ (Uncut Magazine) and 4-time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominees, Stick In The Wheel. Her solo music has been described as “beautifully poised and composed” and “haunting” by BBC Radio 3. Ellie is currently Epping Forest’s Artist-in-Residence and will create a set of new compositions inspired by human impact on the forest through the centuries.
Ellie Wilson said:

“I grew up near Epping Forest and it’s been a part of my life for as long as I can remember – I learned to ride my bike at Connaught Water, went on school trips to Suntrap, and hung out there with my teenage friends. Now it’s a place I go to escape the speed of the city for a few hours and enjoy nature. My work takes a journey through centuries of our incredible local history, from the Iron-Age Loughton Camp, Enclosure, C19th activism and Thomas Willingale (my 5 x Great Uncle!), and WWII bomb craters that are now ponds”.

‘Echoes: unearthing stories of the forest’ will be available in the autumn as an album, and as a public installation at Epping Forest’s visitor centre, The View, as part of London Borough of Culture project The People’s Forest.
