The project targets young people aged 16-30 from disadvantaged communities, providing them with legally profitable and ‘cool’ alternatives to life of drug use, gun and knife gang crime, and enabling them to achieve their full creative potential. Artists benefit from: 121 professional mentoring from music industry experts; technical support and music recording studio time to produce a professional collection of songs and music videos, in digital format; support to approach and promote their work to Investors, Record Labels and Audiences; Music Industry Business Advice: Access to older role models from similar backgrounds with similar experiences; Opportunities to showcase their work to gain a fan-base; Access to small budgets.
Each artist will perform their work live at music venues UK-wide. Performances will be filmed and streamed on-line.
Kurtis was able to avoid the Social Service and Justice system when he was recruited to imake Art‘s pilot project – “The project kept me away from crime, prison, gang culture, showed me a legal way to make money, kept me off social security benefits, gave me improved self-belief, confidence, motivated me to achieve bigger ambitions, improved my skills and confidence”.
