Sound Mind: Musical Responses to the Work of Martin Creed
A profound and fascinating exploration of the relationship between the musical and the visual arts, with composers creating responses to the work of one of the UK’s most prominent artists and former Turner Prize winners. The programme will be centered around a major new commission from composer Jim Aitchison.
Jim Aitchison is renowned for his work at the intersection between art and music, composing what curator Paul Moorhouse describes as “conversations between art-forms.” Jim has successfully completed numerous major commissions, creating musical responses to work by Gerhard Richter, Antony Gormley, Doris Salcedo, Anish Kapoor and many others. Most famously, he was commissioned by Tate Modern, Henry Tillman and Jill Bradford and the PRS Foundation to respond in music to the gallery’s large scale Mark Rothko exhibition, the largest Rothko show for 30 years drawing the artist’s work from the US, Japan and the Tate Collection. Jim is also the first and only composer to be given a fellowship by the Henry Moore Foundation.
Full details of the event will follow official public announcement in spring.
