SONIC-IMAGE: Composition, Recording and Performance

SONIC-IMAGE is a series of workshops created by Open Source CIC. Over the course of 12 weeks, 32 children aged 8-12 will explore the possibilities of modern sampling and the infinite potential of sound design.

Participants will be immersed in a professional music studio environment and interact with some of our generation’s sonic pioneers. Assisted by guest musicians and passionate technicians, they will have a unique opportunity to craft their own sounds, create cutting-edge samples and build a collaborative composition in an acoustically treated environment. The young participants will experience the physicality of sound and the excitement of elaborating a collective sound piece. They will discover how anything can become an instrument and enjoy the fun and unique bonds that music creation entails. They will then feel the thrill and pride of seeing their work performed to an audience of 15,000 alongside some of their musical idols during Open Source Festival 2017, a free, inclusive and non-elitist event promoting cultural and social diversity through artistic excellence. The performances will take place on Gillett Square and in surrounding venues in Dalston.

SONIC-IMAGE will develop the children’s musical ear, structure formation skills, team-working, an understanding of sound as a medium of expression, as well as increase confidence, self-esteem, public speaking, and social and technical skills.
