Ruff Sqwad Arts Foundation Presents "Grime Pays"
We are Prince (Rapid) and Ebs (Slix), Founders of Ruff Sqwad Arts Foundation (RSAF). We are original members of the innovative East London grime collective Ruff Sqwad and are now in the pioneering movement to mainstream the genre. We devised “Grime Pays” as an immersive 5-day industry experience in response to young emerging talent wanting access to high quality learning opportunities, run by artists with credible track records and industry connections.
This pilot for 10, 16-20-year-old women and men, supports the creation, performance, and promotion of outstanding new music in the grime, drill, trap, and under-exposed urban genres. We will explore all facets of the music industry to prepare them as artists and personally, with music sessions on beats production, lyric writing, video-making, presenting, and recording & performing. Business sessions including PRS Music’s “How to monetize your music”, PRS Foundation’s “How to apply to the Foundation”, insights into negotiating, PR, branding, touring, finance, merchandising, the various roles within the industry, and introducing mental and physical well-being tools – equipping them with the personal skills, knowledge, and talent development needed to survive and thrive as mainstream recording artists. Plus, a visit to BBC 1Xtra, Q&A sessions with top artists, and an end of project Showcase in front of an invited industry audience, who we will work with to release and promote some of the best tracks.
We are super excited to be working with PRS Music, PRS Foundation, BBC 1Xtra, GRM Daily and Spotlight as project partners.
