The Long Now - Album Recording and Debut Festival Show
THE LONG NOW is Richard Norris and Finnur Bjarnason, two musicians from diverse backgrounds – electronic, contemporary classical and dance music.
Richard Norris’ background is electronic and dance music, most notably with the Grid, which achieved international success, and more recently with his project Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve with Erol Alkan, which included BBC 6 Music A-listed singles and festival appearances.
Finnur Bjarnason studied at Guildhall School of Music and has performed internationally working with conductors such as René Jacobs, Christoph Rousset, Emmanuelle Haim, Myung-whun Chung, Ivor Bolton and Kyrill Petrenko.
Richard and Finnur are especially interested in how electronic and acoustic music interact and create new forms, helping develop the conversation between electronic, modern classical and the space between.
The meeting of electronic and acoustic sound is proving fertile ground for both artists. They are discovering new combinations of tone and timbre, and new compositional techniques, which are stretching their joint knowledge and pushing music & audience into exciting, uncharted areas.
They are interested in the organic textures and chance events that electronic & acoustic instruments can offer up when pushed in unconventional ways, as well as the potential for surprise and irregularity that live performers can bring to this blend of the music.
