Three Spires Singers: The Open Fund for Organisations
Cornwall-based choir Three Spires Singers is commissioning a work by Graham Fitkin, about the creativity and innovation of scientist Humphry Davy, an extraordinary man – chemist, inventor, painter, writer, poet – an individual who crossed boundaries between many disciplines. In his day scientists conducted experiments publicly, often upon themselves: he inhaled substances such as nitric oxide and carbon monoxide then detailed the results painstakingly even in his intoxicated state, and his notes and detailed descriptions provide rich texts for creative work. The commission will be for SATB choir, a children’s choir recruited from local secondary schools and large orchestra plus vocal soloists.
Three Spires is one of PRS Foundation’s recipients of the David Bedford Music Education Award in 2019.
The David Bedford Music Education Award is given four times a year by PRS for Music Foundation to exceptional education projects involving composers and new music which they have funded. You can read about the most recent David Bedford Music Education Award recipients here.
“Commissioning this new work by Graham Fitkin is a thrilling way to mark our 40th anniversary in 2021. We are indebted to PRS Foundation for supporting us, and feel very privileged to be recipients of the David Bedford Music Education Award.” Lora Wicks, Three Spires Singers
