Opera North (TDN 2024)

Resonance is Opera North’s flagship talent development programme for brilliant Global Majority music creators based in the north of England. Over the last seven years a fantastic collection of new, multi-disciplinary and multi-layered projects have been created, including musical work with film, poetry, design and even scent. Opera North Projects works year-round to develop new and innovative approaches to opera and music theatre, embracing musical backgrounds and cultures from outside the western classical tradition, and pushing at the boundaries of how we tell stories musically.

Resonance is Opera North’s workshop residency programme for Global Majority music creators, working in any genre, and based in the north of England. Launched in 2017, it is part of PRS Foundation’s Talent Development Partner Network supported by PPL. The programme provides a week long R&D opportunity for music makers at early to middle-career stages based in the North of England. It’s a unique opportunity to develop new ideas, to collaborate with performers from other disciplines, and to take their work in new directions. Resonance residencies provide financial, musical and technical support, as well as mentoring and signposting to other opportunities locally and nationally.
