Bio: Since 2017 the annual awards ceremony has celebrated an international array of women and gender diverse artists bringing unique and inquisitive practices to electronic sound and music, all under the unified banner of “innovation in sound, music and technology.” From live coding and expressive sound design to tape loop manipulation and electro-acoustic exploration, the artists recognised by the Orams embody the uncompromising, adventurous spirit of the awards’ namesake Daphne Oram – composer, engineer and founding director of the original BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
Programme Description: 2026 marks the return of our highly successful Oram Awards open call.The Oram Awards support music and sound creators across all genres who:
1. Age 18+
2. Women & Gender Expansive artists
3. Based in the UK
4. Create high quality original new music and sound
5. Innovate in sound, music, and technology
6. Demonstrate that they are deserving of increased recognition
Reflecting findings from the grassroots tour 2025, this year’s categories will be geographically based, selecting five winners from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each winner will receive:
1. £1,500 bursary
2. Showcase their work at Oram Awards events across the country with leading festivals and arts organisations
3. Mentorship – continuing artistic/professional development to the awards winners.
4. Opportunities to meet and collaborate with the Oram alumni and wider network
