Peggy Seeger: Women Make Music

Peggy Seeger is one of the key figures in folk music both in the UK and the USA. Now 85 years old, she has been writing, recording and performing since she was 17. At every turn, her career has broken molds, crossed boundaries & innovated, from the groundbreaking Radio Ballads of the 50s & 60s, to her feminist anthem ‘Gonna Be An Engineer’, and her 2012 collaboration with a dance music producer that became a BBC Radio 1 Record of the Week.

Peggy will be recording her final album, ‘First Farewell’ and touring the UK & Ireland in 2021. The new songs cover a multitude of topics from a well-lived life plus some unexpected ones – young male suicide, modern slavery, climate emergency, ageing & social media – all leavened with wry self-knowledge. This album cements her place as one of the most uncompromising and inspiring female artists in any genre, making us re-examine our preconceptions towards older female creators. Peggy refuses to go quietly.
