Rebekah Reid: Prelude Composer

Spinning multi-layered soundscapes from a singular violin line, Rebekah Reid has become known for combining virtuosic violin performance with live looping and electronics. Effortlessly blending influences from jazz, classical music, world music, folk and electronic dance music, Reid’s trademark cinematic sound has garnered support from BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne and Cerys Matthews.

Reid’s debut solo album ‘Selected Works Vol.1’ was originally commissioned by BBC Sounds and BBC Radio 4 for the podcast series ’28ish Days Later’. The BBC podcast was included in Apple Podcasts ‘Top 5 shows of 2022’ and Amazon Music Best Podcasts 2023. Released independently in September 2023, ‘Selected Works Vol.1’ was well received, garnering critical acclaim with reviews in The Guardian and Financial Times. The album went viral on social media, amassing over 4 million total views on Instagram, and was included on the longlist for the 66th GRAMMY Awards.

Reid has taken her live violin and loop pedal set across the UK, with notable performances at the Royal Albert Hall – Elgar Room in 2019 and 2021, and Shambala Festival 2024 – Sankofa Stage. Rebekah currently plays a Johann Karl Klotz violin from 1786, Germany, kindly on loan from the Harrison-Frank Family Foundation.
