The Resonance Radio Orchestra (RRO) is a floating pool of musicians, engineers, sound-effects creators, actors, writers, composers and broadcasters devoted to making live radio-art. It is based in central London as the in-house artistic wing of Resonance104.4fm, under the direction of Ed Baxter and Chris Weaver.

It was founded in 2004, in response to a commission from the Hoxton Festival that lead to our first performance, the Death of Nero. Since then we have produced over 17 new live performance works for radio.

Our next concerts are in the planing stages. In Spring 2012, the RRO plans a new work to be premiered at Writtle College, Essex, as part of the Post-Works project Writtle Calling a stone’s throw from where Marconi made his first broadcast.

An excerpt from one of our works, Intimacy & Distance: Suspension of Belief was recently broadcast on Radio 4 during the programme “Short Cuts”.

The grant from the PRSF will help us to fund the development of new work. We are in talks with NVA about providing the musical/radiophonic element for the extraordinary Speed Of Light 2012 and the grant will allow us to prototype new technologies that our we hope to use in our collaboration.
