About the piece

Ryan Wigglesworth’s ‘Augenlieder’ will be presented alongside works by Mehul and Beethoven, composed 100 and 200 years before, as part of the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2020 Vision Festival. This work will resonate with our audiences because they will see its place within the pantheon of the classical cannon .

About the composer

Composer, conductor, pianist Ryan Wigglesworth was born in Yorkshire in 1979. His works are championed by leading performers and include Augenlieder written for Claire Booth and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Locke’s Theatre commissioned for the Britten Centenary by Aldeburgh Music, and Études-Tableaux commissioned by The Cleveland Orchestra. Wigglesworth’s opera The Winter’s Tale was commissioned by English National Opera and a portrait disc of orchestral works was released on NMC. Wigglesworth is the Richard Rodney Bennett Professor of Music at the Royal Academy of Music.
