Candlebird by Martin Suckling: Resonate

About the piece

Commissioned by the London Sinfonietta in 2011, Candlebird is a setting of five texts by acclaimed Scottish poet Don Paterson.  Songs of love and loss and recollection, the music moves in and out of a microtonal language and is by turn folk-like, tender, percussive, fragmented, and ultimately lyrical and expansive.

About the composer

Martin Suckling has been commissioned internationally by many leading orchestras and ensembles including the LSO, BBCSSO, DSO Berlin, London Sinfonietta, Toronto Symphony Orchestra and RSNO. He is Associate Composer with the SCO and Senior Lecturer at the University of York. In 2015 his work was awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize.

Championed by Aurora Orchestra
