Residuum by Tansy Davies: Resonate

About the piece

‘Residuum’ replays and re-imagines the residual energy of the English Renaissance, like an echo of ancient music in a modern time. It’s a concept very much in harmony with the ethos of the 12 ensemble; bringing a fresh perspective to great music for a modern audience.

About the composer

Tansy Davies’ work has found an accommodation between the worlds of the avant-garde and experimental rock, between – in the words of one critic – Xenakis and Prince. The recipient of a 2009 Paul Hamelin Award, Davies has been commissioned by numerous world class ensembles and orchestras, including the London Sinfonietta, BCMG, and a large-scale work for the BBC Symphony Orchestra for the Proms in 2010. Listed in the Evening Standard’s Progress 1000 of the UK’s most influential people of 2015, Davies’s current projects include a large-scale work for symphony orchestra.
