The Way to Castle Yonder by Oliver Knussen: Resonate

About the piece

The Way to Castle Yonder, one of the late Oliver Knussen’s most charming and concentrated works, will be well-received by our audiences following his many appearances with the CBSO. Playing it with our Music Director – a great admirer of Knussen’s music – will make these performances a fitting tribute.

About the composer

‘No figure in British contemporary music is more respected than Oliver Knussen… every piece makes its point perfectly and shows Knussen’s mastery of his musical language and influences.’ The Guardian
Oliver Knussen was one of the world’s most eminent and influential composers, creating work of crystalline concision, complexity and richness which cemented his position at the forefront of contemporary British music. As a conductor, Knussen was renowned for his unfailing advocacy across a wide range of contemporary music, as Music Director of the London Sinfonietta, Artist in Association with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and Artistic Director of the Aldeburgh Festival.

Championed by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra
