Resonate: Tiger Dancing by Steve Martland and Iris by Tansy Davis

About the piece(s)

Tiger Dancing by Steve Martland explores varying textures and shifting accents resulting in a fiendishly difficult, yet joyous, exposition of Martland’s unique and exuberant style. Iris, by Tansy Davis crosses genres between jazz and classical and creates a deeply immersive ‘other worldly’ environment.

About the composer(s)

Liverpool born Steve Martland studied composition in Holland with Louis Andriessen. His preoccupation with the function of the composer in society was reflected in his commitment to music education. Martland rejected academic dogma in favour of a plurality of musical influences, both ancient and modern, ‘serious’ and vernacular.

Bristol born Davies studied at Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Royal Holloway. She has been commissioned by ensembles and festivals including BBC Proms, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, and New York Philharmonic. In 2015 she was included in the Evening Standard’s Progress 1000 list of the UK’s most influential people.

Championed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
