Short Project Title: RPS Composers is year-long development programme for composers with a paid commission, professional development and mentoring to build sustainable careers.
Bio: The Royal Philharmonic Society – a registered charity – has been at the heart of music for over 200 years, creating opportunities for musicians to excel, and championing the vital role music plays in all our lives. Through our programme of grants, commissions, professional development and performance opportunities, we help many performers and composers overcome barriers to progress and fulfil their potential.
Programme Description: RPS Composers is a year-long, annual development programme which supports around 8 composers a year with a paid commission to raise their profile and build new relationships with performers and audiences. With a range of valued partners nationally, we create bespoke partnerships for each composer to write a new solo or chamber work for a noted contemporary classical ensemble, festival or venue, supporting composers to develop their creative practice and build lasting professional relationships UK- wide. Alongside the commission, composers receive dedicated one-to-one mentoring and advice. They form a supportive cohort, coming together online and in person for monthly professional development workshops and networking opportunities with expert guest speakers from across the music industry. RPS Composers encourages and supports music creators looking to make a step-change in their careers, helping them to develop the confidence, skills and contacts to transform their prospects and build sustainable careers.
