Rylan Gleave (under moniker All Men Unto Me) commissioned by Paraorchestra : New Music Biennial 2025
Project Title : All Men Unto Me: Requiem
Paraorchestra create unforgettable musical experiences through our genre-defying live shows, and now, through our pioneering artist development programme, we’re creating long-lasting change too. We are a fearless collective of disabled and non-disabled musicians: a platform that pushes the boundaries of music-making to create art with passion and purpose. With a diverse ensemble led by the remarkable vision of our artistic director Charles Hazlewood, our performances are a fusion of emotion, innovation, and intrepid artistry. Behind the scenes, we focus on developing careers, building confidence, and fostering collaboration to inspire a fierce ambition and excellence that matches our artistic programme.
Rylan Gleave is a composer and vocalist, working in experimental and divergent fields. Under moniker All Men Unto Me, he explores Anglican aesthetics and doom metal influences, drawing on the timbres of his late-breaking voice. All Men Unto Me’s debut album, In Chemical Transit, was reviewed as “breath-taking” by Veil of Sound and “a brave, fascinating, and triumphant view of transition” in The Wire.
Rylan works across disciplines, particularly dramatic live contexts, exploring a range of dark folk (EP Lawn Crypt), jazz-punk (class-work), avant-garde metal (Ashenspire), chamber music, and orchestral compositions, recently with Paraorchestra, Mahogany Opera, and Chamber Music Scotland. For the New Music Biennial, Rylan is re-orchestrating his new album, Requiem, for live shows in Bradford and London. Requiem has roots in sacred Anglican music, but tendrils growing into noise rock and doom metal. It queries the conditions of trans-masculinity within patriarchal systems, and speaks to the warmth of Queer love, forgiveness, and reverence.
