‘Rani’, an EP bridging the South Asian and Western sounds
Saloni is a British Asian singer/songwriter whose original music and remixes have a mix of Pop, R&B and Bollywood with over 10 languages, bringing both her Eastern and Western worlds together. Saloni has received media coverage on Rolling Stone, Eastern Eye, BBC and more with over 5 million views of her track ‘Nee Gundellounna’ on Social Media and an Official Charts placement at #16. Saloni is the first UK artist to bring multiple South Asian languages into her original music and is proud to be the representation she never had growing up.
Saloni is set to use her Women Make Music grant to produce her EP, ‘Rani’. Showcasing her talent in singing across 10 different South Asian languages, Saloni blends these influences with Pop and R&B beats. The EP will feature 7 bilingual tracks, spanning a variety of genres and languages, to bridge the cultural gap between East and West. This grant will enable her to collaborate with other artists in the British Asian music scene, bringing fresh and established talent into her project.
Following a successful year performing at prestigious venues such as Wembley Arena and the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend, and having a release in the Official Charts, this funding will allow Saloni to fully realise her artistic vision. The EP’s title, ‘Rani’, means Queen in Hindi, encouraging all listeners to embrace their inner power and reign over their dreams.
