Sarah Gillespie: Women Make Music
‘The War on Trevor’ is a narrative piece of music depicting the plights of a luckless London lad who repeatedly gets mistaken for a terrorist. It combines musical interludes on guitar, accordion, double bass, cello and clarinet with song sections and extracts of vocal narration. The music will be toured across the UK in April 2012 by the Sarah Gillespie Quartet.
Described by Robert Wyatt as ‘brilliant, the bees knees’ Sarah Gillespie is critically acclaimed Anglo-American singer-songwriter based in London. Her 2 albums ‘Stalking Juliet’ (2009) and ‘In the Current Climate’ (2011) received rave reviews from the broadsheet and music press for combining beat poetry lyrics with folk, blues and jazz. Having studied for a Masters Degree in politics and philosophy her songs often combine the personal life with the socio-political in references to everything from the Dow Jones and the Hang Index to John the Baptist, Guantanamo and semtex smuggling. Gillespie has toured extensively in the UK and Europe playing festivals, theatres and arts centers with her quartet featuring maverick saxophonist and composer Gilad Atzmon. She has played live on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and received airplay on BBC Radio 2, BBC radio 2, Jazz FM and local international stations. She is currently writing her third album.
