Serign-B Sanneh: POWER UP Industry Professional
Bio: Serign-B Sanneh is a multi-award winning music publisher, entrepreneur, and rights advocate based in Scotland and the founder of Jaalolu, a music distribution and rights management platform dedicated to helping creators protect their work and collect the royalties they deserve.
Originally from The Gambia, Serign-B’s journey into music publishing was driven by a desire to tackle the lack of rights awareness and royalty transparency affecting many African artists. Growing up in The Gambia and seeing talented artists die in poverty, he was determined to understand why this happened and how to address it. With only a short period of formal industry experience, he built his expertise through academic study, independent research, mentoring, and years of self-development, earning a BA in Music Business and completing an MSc in International Tourism and Events Management. Through Jaalolu, he supports a growing roster of artists while championing education around music publishing, copyright, metadata, royalties, and ownership. He has worked with some of the most vulnerable African artists whose music had been heavily pirated, exploited, and generated income for everyone but the creators until Jaalolu stepped in to help identify, recover, and manage their rights. His vision is to make rights management more accessible and transparent, ensuring that creators, regardless of their background or location, can build sustainable careers from their work. As a POWER UP Participant, Serign-B aims to deepen his expertise in copyright and publishing, strengthen Jaalolu’s infrastructure, and expand its impact as a trusted resource for creators navigating the global music industry.
