Glasgow’s annual folk, roots and world music festival, Celtic Connections celebrates Celtic music and its connections to cultures across the globe. Between 19th January – 5th February 2012, 2,100 musicians from around the world will descend on Glasgow and bring the city to life for 18 days of concerts, ceilidhs, talks, art exhibitions, workshops, and free events.
The festival encourages artistic creativity by commissioning new music and allowing a platform for world premieres involving new collaborations of musicians from all over the world to take place. Since the festival’s inception, over 80 new works have been commissioned and performed. Many have then gone on to be recorded and/or performed at other festivals.
