Shy One: PPL Momentum Music Fund
Album Recording and Release Project
Shy One lives and breathes the eclecticism and diversity of her DJ sets and productions. Having started off DJing on pirate radio as a teenager, the native Londoner has been exposed to and influenced by the full spectrum of sounds her hometown has birthed and nurtured over the years. Since her initial releases on Scratcha’s DVA music imprint, Shy One has gone on to release music on labels like Rhythm Section, Beats In Space, Apron and last year dropped two releases on Eglo Records which were lauded as her most accomplished work to date.
If that wasn’t enough, Shy One is also one of the most in demand DJ’s around – both in clubs and on radio – holding down regular shows on NTS and Balamii, as well as taking part in Radio 1’s Residency at the end of last year. The past twelve months have seen her playing at some of the most revered clubs and festivals in the UK and Europe, with sets at the likes of Panorama Bar, Fabric, Glastonbury and Nuits Sonores, as well as two tours of Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia.
The PPL Momentum grant will allow Shy One to produce, record and release her album to a standard that would not be possible with the support of most independent labels. It will allow her to use professional studios to record instrumental collaborators, have the album mixed and mastered, and manufacture the final product, as well as allowing budget for a substantial marketing campaign.
